WIPUP 19.03.10a fresh out of the oven.
By Moult from WIPUP - WIPUP is a flexible and easy way to show people what you're working on.

You should share it.

It doesn't matter if your update looks horrible, your update is a valued part of the creation process and deserves every right to be proudly showcased out there for the world to see. At WIPUP, we believe that this in-between is just as important and breathtakingly awesome as the finished product iself - it's the hidden spectacular adventure behind the creation. Anything from a brainwave of an idea to a tiny nudge of a pixel - we want you to use WIPUP to suit your workflow.

WIPUP 19.03.10a is roaming the internets and even though still in alpha-status it's traveled a good distance to becoming a system ready for beta. To continue the tradition of quoting statistics (there are lies, damned lies, and statistics) using Git measurements we have a stunning 2,217 source lines of code added, and a measly 466 source lines of code deleted. This gives a net total of 1,751 source lines of code added. This has been spread over 31 old source files and 9 added source files.

Right - to the features presentation ceremony!

A completely revamped profile page to showcase yourself.

The profile page was experiencing some growth pains once a user added 3 or more projects, and so we had to completely rethink how to present information about latest WIPUPs. We identified the need of the profile page to snapshot a users latest works and give guests an overview of what they are working on, leaving the actual project browsing to a separate page.

Our solution incorporates a brand new profile information section - users can now edit profile information, able to supply contact information, avatars, basic profile information, an "About me" paragraph - all presented in a concise and digestable manner on your profile. Little details such as the "Last Active" date show the polish of this feature.

Just below the profile we have support for an optional "featured project" section, where updates with a big enough update picture can now be selected to be used as the poster to advertise the project you're most proud of. Your 3 Latest WIPs are also now shown on your profile page, with a short citation of the project they belong to, a snippet of the update summary, as well as statistics on how many times they've been viewed and how many kudos and comments they have received.

The projects now appear by default "unexpanded" in a list-format, with the project icons and project names clearly visible, last updated date, as well as a one-liner summary of what the project is about (which is compulsory when adding projects). There is also a nifty micro preview of the 5 latest updates so that users can get a snapshot of what's been going on. Guests have the choice to expand and preview these projects and scroll through their timeline (with fancy new scrollarrows!) or bring up the detailed project view. For legacy users an "Expand/Collapse All" function is available.

The profile completes itself with a view of Random Updates from the user at the bottom, to expose guests to otherwise unloved updates :)

The updates to the profile view can be better seen in attachment #2, or check out my profile for a demo of how it works.

Yep, a fancy detailed project view is now available for showcasing individual projects.

This new view displays all the updates of a specific project in an image-happy format using fancy new cropped thumbnails and shadow overlay effects complete with project summary and relevant statistics as described above. This view is complete with pagination support and share-friendly URLs.

At the same time we've added support for deleting projects, where you can choose either to delete all the updates within the project, or transfer them to another project.

Polish and incorporation of user-suggestions.

Due to the large amounts of user-confusion resulting from whether or not the Latest WIPs was actually functional, it's now been implemented, complete with the "Browse More" feature. This was actually used as a sneak preview for this update available here.

When submitting updates a "please wait" notification is displayed - user feedback is vital especially when uploading large files and we're happy to say this appears in a very nice overlayed page in order to stop itchy users from randomly clicking buttons we don't want them to.

Updates that you can't write a long paragraph about

  • The random update icon (right next to the "add" icon on the top) now works! Use it and discover new fancy projects and updates!
  • Comments support line breaks and avatars.
  • "Remember me" support added when logging in.
  • Registered users are now automatically logged in.
  • Blank avatars and icons now use a standard "no icon" picture.
  • New date formats (6th March 2010 instead of 2010-03-06 22:14:02)
  • A README file for developers thanks to Kamal Morjal

Notable Bugfixes

  • Support for non-word characters in file uploads now working.
  • Glitch to recognise login status immediately fixed.
  • Several 404 errors tracked down and shot.
  • Project icons, download icons and random update icons now have borders as appropriate.
  • Fancybox background colour fixed.
  • Limit of updates added to project timeline.
  • IE7 compatiblity fixes (note that IE6 is not and will not be supported)

Comments and kudos much appreciated, and despite the unfinished state we'd like to start inviting alpha testers so if you're interested in checking out how practical this system is go sign up and tell me how it is. Potential developers may be interested in the source, hosted on GitHub, and IRC lurkers may want to add #eadrax to their lurk list on Freenode.
